Full Job Description

The Manufacturing Operator is responsible for equipment operation, troubleshooting and preventative maintenance of manufacturing line equipment. In this role, the Manufacturing Operator must have operational knowledge of how his/her actions and decisions will impact financial, quality and safety metrics; understanding and adhering to plant operating procedures and guidelines, and complies with regulatory requirements in his/ her area of responsibility. The Line owner must be able to independently perform most assignments and train new temporary workers in the area.

Deliverables

  • Routinely communicates with team members on own team, team members on adjoining shifts, Area Manager, Planners, Maintenance etc. on short- medium range production output vs plan to ensure customer service levels are met by providing the required output on a timely basis.
  • Achieves quality objectives by following all production related documentation such as control plans, work instructions, GMP guidelines (where required) etc. to ensure we are minimizing waste, scrap, and product defects during the manufacturing stages.
  • Achieves plant Health, Safety, Environmental objectives by operating safely, reporting all unsafe conditions, performing behavioral safety audits, and attend monthly meetings on safety.
  • Coordinate training activity of new temps to the area; demonstrate exceptional communication skills to internal customers and exchange pertinent information to peers in an effective manner.
  • Passionately identify and implement opportunities for continuous improvement within the department.

Operational

  • Operates and changes over manufacturing equipment as needed within the planned time.
  • Follows and improves upon center-lining for manufacturing equipment
  • Achieves required OEE/PV targets on assigned manufacturing lines.
  • Continuously evaluates manufacturing operations, suggests and implements improvements to achieve optimum line efficiencies.
  • Follows current work instruction and insures adherence to the Quality Control Plan and related SOP’s including GMP guidelines as required. Completes all production records as required.
  • Responsible for plant Safety and policies including but not limited to Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), HAZCOM, Process Safety, Machine Guarding, Lock Out/Tag Out and Emergency Action.
  • Trains other Manufacturing Operators and Temporary Workers daily

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Minimum one (1) years-prior manufacturing related experience in fast paced environment.
  • Must have the ability to work any shift and function in a team-oriented environment.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to plan ahead and take initiative in resolving equipment, material, staffing problems on the lines.
  • Ability to lead safety improvements through personal commitment and procedures is required.
  • Knowledge of industrial safety procedures and regulations is a requirement.
  • Ability to problem solve and engage employees in a team environment.
  • Solid computer skills (i.e. email, timecards, production reports, etc.).
  • Technical knowledge of high speed manufacturing equipment and operations with the ability to troubleshoot and correct problems using appropriate tools.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, reach overhead, bend or stoop, walk occasionally, grasp items with hands and lift up to 40 pounds.

Shifts available:

1st shift 6am-6pm – $15-16/hour

2nd shift 6pm-6am – $16-17/hour

Job Summary


Machine Operators set up and run blended pet food products. Use skills and abilities to set up and operate packaging machines according to instructions and procedures.


Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Learn to setup and operate packaging production equipment by following and documenting procedures.
  • Check quality characteristics while operating equipment.
  • Retrieve required tools or equipment, clean up all equipment and moving product in or out of the line area as need.
  • Setting up equipment, cleaning equipment and moving product in or out of the line area as needed.
  • Communicate to Production Supervisor/Manager, Maintenance, and other Machine Operators issues with equipment that may affect operations.
  • Promote team attitude to further company goals concerning productivity, safety and quality.
  • Operate machines, including troubleshooting, cleanup, setup, basic quality control, and waste control.
  • Work with Maintenance Team to troubleshoot machine issues.
  • Make machine adjustments as necessary to produce products that meet company/customer specifications.
  • Follow all necessary GMPs and ensure workers on that line are following GMPs.
  • Make sure all materials are loaded into the machine in a quick, efficient manner so that downtime is limited.
  • Observe and follow safety procedures using personal safety equipment and lock-out/tag-out procedures as required.
  • Perform hourly quality checks on finished goods.
  • Enter data into Flex System.
  • Assist in Production performing packaging duties as needed or requested.
  • Provide support work for plant improvement projects as directed.
  • Perform other work related duties as assigned.


Education and Experience Profile

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 2-3 years of experience with setup or operation of packaging equipment is preferred, but not required.
  • Food manufacturing experience preferred.


Required Skills

  • Able to read and legibly write English and follow verbal or written directions.
  • Able to use basic arithmetic skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
  • Able to function with a high degree of manual dexterity to assemble or repair precision equipment.
  • Able to read and operate digital and dial scales.
  • Able to stoop, bend, and climb.
  • Able to operate material handling equipment including forklifts.
  • Able to push/pull carts that may have loads exceeding 200 pounds.
